The company is a global manufacturer and supplier of such drivetrain systems and components for heavy duty commercial and military vehicles, as well as off-highway machines used in the agricultural, construction, material handling, and mining markets. They are also sold as aftermarket parts. AxleTech has manufacturing and distribution operations in the US, France, and Brazil. Formerly a subsidiary of military contractor General Dynamics, AxleTech was acquired by The Carlyle Group in early 2015.
